Friday Favorites:Grumpy Cat Edition

Each week I'm going to post a few of my favorite new from Pinterest.  They might just be cute animal pictures, awesome things that maybe someday I'll DIY, or maybe just something that has been stuck on a pin board that I want to remember.

So...here are today's Friday Favorites! Today is the Grumpy Cat edition!

This one has no source, when I clicked on the pin I got one of those "this link has been reported as spam" messages...so if this is your photo, feel free to let me know and I'll credit you!

As a cat lover, I find grumpy cat to be absolutely adorable.  Our cats have personalities of their own and sometimes they're grumpy (although not as grumpy as Grumpy Cat.) Whoever owns this cat is so lucky, because he is absolutely adorable.  No matter how grumpy he is!

This next one is a picture of cookies from Smash Cakery.  They have some awesome looking cakes and cookies, check out their website!

I saw these on Pinterest around Valentines day and I thought they were adorable.  I think the conversation hearts are pretty awesome, too.

The final picture is near and dear to my heart.  I LOVE to crochet, so this hat is absolutely fabulous.  And! You can purchase it for $35.00 on JMEaccessory's Etsy Page.  I once attempted to make an owl hat that was similar...mine did not turn out very well, but this Grumpy Hat is pretty awesome.

So, overall I'm pretty sure Grumpy Cat is my new favorite internet fad.  Most of the memes that have been made are hilarious, and I could spend a few hours on Pinterest just laughing at his adorably grumpy face!

Happy Friday and happy weekend, everyone!

My New Beauty Obsession

Pinterest provides us all with a lot of beauty tutorials, photos, tips, and techniques.  One of the greatest tips/suggestions I have seen on the beauty pages of Pinterest is the use of coconut oil.  This stuff is great awesome fantastic the GREATEST STUFF EVER.  There, I said it.

After discovering coconut oil, I used both Pinterest and the internet to find out some more information about it.  Ironically enough, I had already purchased some a long time ago in order to make lotion bars (yet another pinned idea!) and so I had some around to mess with.

At first, I started off with putting the oil in my hair as a leave-in conditioner.  Coconut oil is a little strange because it starts out as a solid and melts in your hands as you use it.  So, with a little coaxing I got the ends of my very dry hair soaked in coconut oil.  I left it on for about 30 minutes (because I'm super impatient) and then took a shower to rinse it out.  I thought for sure that it would take forever to wash out, but it didn't take more than my normal shampoo and condition for my hair to feel clean and not oily.

The verdict: holy awesomeness! My hair was softer, felt healthier, and was super shiny.  I later tried it with leaving it in for a few hours, which only made the effects even better.

I also use coconut oil on my skin, as recommended by Pinterest blogs all around, for dry skin on my hands, use after shaving, as a face moisturizer, makeup remover, and to get rid of stretch marks and these awful little red bumps on the back of my arms.  I literally use coconut oil for everything!

You're probably thinking, why on earth would you put oil on your face?! Well, I'm here to tell you that it has actually made my face LESS oily! Normal face beauty products strip your skin of moisture, which causes your skin to produce more oil to keep up.  Coconut oil absorbs quickly and doesn't leave your skin feeling gross after, and it actually keeps my face from getting as oily by the end of the day because it's not working so hard to catch up to my face wash!  It's great to use as a make-up remover, and women in India have done this for a long time.  Just rub a little on, even on your eyes, and wipe it off with a dry cloth.  It moisturizes and cleans in one step!

My new favorite kitchen condiment!
As far as stretch marks and the little red bumps...after some more research I found out that coconut oil can help treat those red bumps (known as Keratosis Pilaris) that I have tried everything under the sun to remove.  Exfoliating, washing, lotioning, nothing worked until I tried this stuff! Now, the bumps aren't completely gone, but they're less noticeable and the backs of my arms are smoother.  While coconut oil may not be the cure-all for stretch marks, the ones that plague my hips have gotten lighter as I've been using it.

I haven't yet tried a recipe using coconut oil, but after this lovely little purchase, which you can't tell from the picture but is actually 54oz of oil ($16 at Costco!) I will be sure to try it out and report back!

My First Thrifty Remake

I haven't been thrifting for very long (OK, maybe just a few weeks) and to be quite honest before I started using Pinterest I thought that all Goodwill stores just sold clothes and old junky stuff.  I was so incredibly and delightfully wrong!

Last week I was on spring break from school, and with Tyler at work, I decided I'd go around to a few thrift stores in the area to see what I could find to remake.  After just the first shop (A local place that supports mission work called Thrift Nation) I was already hooked.  There was so much stuff that I could get for way cheaper than it would cost at a normal store, and there was even more stuff that I could repurpose the way I had seen on Pinterest! Fantastic!

So, I went to a few stores and bought a couple things, not spending any more than $15 in total.  One thing that I bought, with a specific Pinterest project in mind, was a plain glass flower vase.

In my mind, I could only see the photo below, which was originally pinned from Sugar and Charm.

So, I bought the vase ($0.50) with that in mind, as well as some Martha Steward Glitter Paint in Antique Silver ($3 or so at Michael's) and I went home and went to work.

Overall, this was a pretty easy project, although it was a little frustrating.  I tried using a brush like in the original pin, but the paint wasn't going on very evenly.  So, instead I just poured a bunch of it in and started twisting the vase around until the entire thing was covered.  This gave it a more even coat and then I poured out the extra paint that was left in the bottom.

According to the bottle of paint, it would take 21 days before I could put flowers in the vase, and I'm not a very patient person.  So, instead I just decided to bake the vase in the oven at about 300 degrees for about 30 minutes (be sure to check the manufacturer's specifications before doing this, not all paints can be cured this way!) and then let it sit overnight to cool.

I was pleasantly surprised by how well it all turned out.  At first when the paint went on the glitter wasn't showing very well, and I was a little upset that it just looked more silvery than glittery.  But once the paint cured...it looks like a disco ball!  Pair it up with some bright colored gerbra daisy's from Michael's and I have my newest table centerpiece!

Beautiful, bright, and cheery!

The color turned out perfectly, I love it!

I'm so excited about the way it turned out and I can't wait to use it throughout the seasons to display other beautiful flowers!

Built on Pins

Hello! Welcome and thank you so much for visiting. This blog was created based on my absolute love of Pinterest. Ever since it became popular, all I feel like I do (besides eat, sleep, and go to school...although sometimes I even do it during class!) is surf the Pinterest world for awesome recipes, pictures, crafts, and DIY's. Since a lot of Pinterest consists of blog posts from other bloggers, I thought I'd try my hand at blogging myself and posting to the time-suck fabulous website we know as Pinterest.

Our Fur Babies, CC on bottom and Ace on top.
So, I suppose you'd like to know a little about me before I start. I'm 23 years old, currently residing in Cleveland, Ohio, and I'm a student working on my doctorate of physical therapy. As if I don't spend enough time studying, I love to craft, thrift, cook, repurpose, and bake in my spare time. I have a fabulous fiance named Tyler, and we are getting married August 17 of this year. (Can you tell that Pinterest played a HUGE role in our wedding planning as well!?) We have two fur babies named Ace and CC,  who we both adore and are constantly annoyed by at the same time. (I'm also pushing to get a golden retriever puppy sometime in the next year, but that's a little ways down the road!)

My crafting of choice, beyond thrifting to repurpose, is crochet, sewing, and scrapbooking. There will be several posts, I'm sure, with projects that I've done and given away or kept for myself. All in all, this blog is just a way for me to keep organized all the fabulous projects that I have done and will do in the future, while giving some DIY advice and hopefully my own humor along the way. Keep an eye out for Pinterest recipe reviews as well, because every week or so I like to try a new recipe that I've found floating around those pages.

If you'd like to check out what I've pinned so far, you can visit my Pinterest page here! I'm super excited to show you all that I've done so far and everything that I will do in the future. Stay tuned!
